Is It Absolutely Necessary To Visit A Blacksmith?

For anyone that can utilize any of the items a blacksmith can create, yes. According to any wow blacksmithing guide I have read, Blacksmiths can create items if they are in your guild for cost or materials and if not in your guild will usually create your item for a small tip (10-50g) depending on the rarity of the item you are requesting.  On the odd occasion a really rare pattern may fetch a 100g tip, but will be well worth the investment in the long run.

Get Gold to pay Blacksmiths

Gathering the materials can sometimes be difficult, especially if you don’t have a miner or the other skills that may be required to gather the required items.  If this is your case then do not fret!  You can simply farm the gold that will be required to purchase the items from other trades people, or the Auction House.  The Auction House provides a hub for those trades people, and players that lack a certain set of skills required to gather things, but may still require them for certain items they need crafted.
